Yateley in the Great War – Book now available

After five years of research and writing by the Society’s local history team its long-awaited description of life in Yateley during the Great War of 1914 – 1918 has now been published ahead of schedule by Pen & Sword Books and is selling fast.

The book describes the impact of the War on Yateley during 1914 – 1918.  It is the story of the men who left Yateley to fight and the women who left to nurse the wounded on the battlefields, and of those who remained “to keep the home fires burning” in varied ways, such as nursing in Yateley’s Military Hospital.

With its intimate glimpses into village life this book will be fascinating to anyone with connection to Yateley. The names of many families in the village of 100 years ago are here, while for relative newcomers (some by as much as 70 years!) perhaps living in a Victorian or Edwardian house there may be clues to the history of your homes.
