Roger Durdle
Honorary Secretary & Membership Secretary

I have lived in Yateley for 30 years and have been a member of the Yateley Society for the past 15 years. Having retired from a commercial career in the construction industry I am now in a position to volunteer some time and energy to support the society’s good works. As Hon Secretary I look after all the society’s administration including membership. In addition I chair the PR subcommittee.

I am married and have four children all of whom were brought up in Yateley and went to local schools. Outside of the society I am a governor of Frogmore Junior School.

I moved to Darby Green in 1993 because at the time I was working in Reading and my husband was working in Guildford.  I didn’t consider the proximity of schools, shops or amenities because I spent all my time at work!  When we started a family in 1995 I came to realise what a good choice we had made.  I gave up work and became involved in the community.  I joined the committee of Potley Hill Preschool, became a governor at Potley Hill Primary School, joined the PTA of Frogmore College and, when Linden put in an application to turn Clarks Farm into a business park, I joined the Yateley Society.  I have been an active member now for 11 years and I also produce the newsletter and help maintain the website.  I now also work for Potley Hill Preschool as Office Manager and am Work Experience Coordinator at Yateley School.

Buying our house in Yateley in 1976 not only plunged us into planning and local history but caught us up in the archane world of common land legislation. Since then it’s been sink or swim.  I spoke at my first Public Inquiry in Yateley one month before moving in; I was at the Public Record Office within the first three months researching our house history; and within three years I was attending a High Court Hearing on behalf of Yateley Commoners.  By 1980 I was Secretary of the Steering Group set up to form the Yateley Society and the rest is history: preferably at the moment local history with a focus on the 16th century.

My wife, Frances, and I moved to Yateley in the summer of 2008 so we are relative new comers. However, we have lived in Hart for the past 36 years so we are very familiar with the area. Since retiring in 2009 I decided that now I have spare time, some of that time will be devoted to the community, hence I joined the Yateley Society. My professional background is electrical engineering, mainly in the construction sector, specializing in large computer/IT facilities. I have longed held a strong belief that our heritage and environment play an ever important role in our lives and way of life and should not be at the mercy of progress, but exist side by side with it. I hope, therefore, to contribute towards ensuring that the Yateley “village feel” can not only be maintained but improved upon.

We moved into one of the oldest houses in Darby Green just before Christmas 2005, to escape from the development south of the M4 in Reading.  My wife and children rapidly became involved in the community with schools, brownies and scouts.  Whereas I work in Bracknell.  We were involved in the campaign against the changes of licence at Canterburys.  I joined the Yateley Society last year and hope to be more involved in the future.

Juliette Breschinsky
Executive Committee Member & Minutes Secretary

I am Minutes Secretary for Yateley Society, volunteering for the advertised post in 2010 as a way of supporting Yateley.

Four generations of my family have lived in Yateley. I have one daughter and work as a midwife. The other local groups I support are Yateley Gardening Society and North East Hants Ramblers.

Yateley for me is a social community with historical interest, a pleasing present: having a good mixture of country side, housing, shops and hopefully a shared vision of the future.
